Tailings as a Resource
Could tailings become a raw material rather than a waste product? That question formed the starting point for a study by Master of Science students from Uppsala University, who explored how residual material from Sydvaranger’s future mining operations could be used in new industrial applications. The findings point to several promising opportunities for creating circular material flows.
Year-End Report for 2025
On Thursday, 26 February, we presented our Year-End Report for 2025. CEO, Christer Lindqvist, and CFO, Paul Johnsson, were present for a live broadcast together with Investor Studios. The recording is available to watch afterwards via the link.
Grangex publishes ESIA for the Sydvaranger mine
Tuesday 3 February, we published a summary of the comprehensive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) carried out for the Sydvaranger mine. The report provides a consolidated overview of the environmental and social impacts associated with restarting the mine, together with the measures planned to prevent, mitigate and manage these impacts in both the short and long term.
We identify and develop Nordic mineral projects
Grangex is a Swedish mineral development company that aims to become a key player in Europe’s mineral supply. Through responsible extraction and recycling, we seek to contribute to sustainable societal development and strengthen Europe’s self-sufficiency in critical industrial metals.
Our mineral projects aim to contribute to Europe's metal supply in a sustainable way
Sydvaranger mine
In Norwegian Finnmark lies Sydvaranger. The mine is the third-largest iron ore mine in the Nordic region, with its operations currently dormant and a planned restart in 2027. In preparation for the restart, GRANGEX will implement processes to improve the mine’s product quality, which will make Sydvaranger a significant supplier in the value chain for the steel industry’s green transition.
Dannemora mine
Located in northern Uppland, Sweden, Dannemora is a mine with a long history and substantial iron ore resources beneath the surface. As part of GRANGEX’s planned restart of the operation, a new production process will be introduced to further enhance product quality. The result will be an even higher-grade product that positions Dannemora as an important supplier to the green steel value chain.
Grängesberg
In the recycling of apatite in Grängesberg, the tailings from the iron ore beneficiation at the closed Grängesberg mine will be processed. The byproduct can be used to produce highly enriched apatite. The phosphate mineral apatite is a critical mineral according to the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act.
Sala Bly
By the old silver mine in Swedish Sala lies Sala Bly. The operation specializes in custom-made products from recycled lead, primarily used in the defense industry and for medical technology applications.
